My last post features Levi and the Rockats, an early rockabilly revival band out of England. In that post I had to admit to not knowing anything about the band. Chrystal, a fan of the band, commented and filled me in a little bit more about Levi Dexter.
And that all made me realize just how much I still don’t know about this music! One of the reasons I started this blog (almost two years ago now!) was so that I could get more connected to the scene, so I could learn more about the music I love. And when you guys write comments to share your knowledge, give your opinions, or even when you take me to task for getting something wrong, I love it!
I’m not trying to pretend I know everything. In fact, a lot of what I write about is stuff that I’m learning for the first time as I write it. I figure if I find it interesting, well then a lot of you might too. Sometimes I suppose I betray my lack of knowledge by saying things that are obvious to some of you, but even that’s OK. I just want to learn about the music and the rockabilly scene worldwide.
I’ve discovered so many great bands both old and new and I’ve “met” a lot of people who seem really cool. Just simple, genuine people who love the same music I love. I feel like I’m friends with some of the musicians even though we’ve never met. Bands are usually so grateful for any space I give them here and I in return am grateful for any mention of the blog they pass on to their fans.
And I’m extra grateful to those of you who participate with the occasional comment here on the blog. I like it when mine isn’t the only voice spewing forth. You guys are a lot smarter than I am it seems and there’s always somebody who knows just a little bit of something more about the topic I’m written about. Like Chrystal and my new friend Cindy who always has something interesting to share.
The more I write about on this blog, the more I realize just how much I don’t know. The more I listen to rockabilly-radio and rockabillyriotradio, the more music I hear for the first time–lots of it new, but a surprising amount of it old. There’s so much out there that I have yet to hear! So many bands from Europe. The French, the Swedes, England, Germany, the Eastern bloc–it’s coming from everywhere. And who knew there were so many great American bands playing rockabilly? It’s alive everywhere and there’s so much I don’t know about it!
So, you should help me out. I know you have your favorites and I know many of the bands you love I don’t even know about. So, let me know who they are! I still have so much to learn…
